COPING WITH SWOLLEN FEET DURING PREGNANCY: SCHOLL'S TOP TIPS

When your body puts on weight during pregnancy it can change how you walk and even cause foot problems like leathery skin and corns. Also, if your feet are struggling to support your body properly, it may cause pain in the knees, hips and lower back. We share our tips for avoiding discomfort during pregnancy.1

DOES THE SHOE FIT?

During pregnancy it’s common for your feet to increase by one or two sizes, so make sure you’re wearing the right sized shoes.2 To help relieve your sore feet, wear shoes with low heels and cushioned insole supports. Wearing shoes with Scholl GelActiv insoles in their soles also helps absorb shock when walking.

BE KIND TO DRY SKIN

Dry, leathery skin requires regular foot care. A pumice stone, file and exfoliating cream can help get rid of dead cells and encourage the regrowth of new, healthy skin. Applying a hydrating and moisturising cream daily improves skin elasticity and prevents dryness and hardening that may lead to the development of corns and thick, hard skin.3

PUT YOUR FEET UP

In the last trimester especially, it’s a good idea to raise your legs during the day to give your lower limbs relief from tiredness and swelling.1,2 It may help to use a cream or refreshing spray to restore tone and energy to feet and legs too. Moderate exercise, such as swimming and walking, is ideal to improve blood circulation and muscle tone. A reduced sodium diet can also help minimise swelling.1,2
