Prevent hard skin with a healthy foot care routine
Prevent hard skin with a healthy foot care routine
Your feet deserve as much care as you give to the rest of your body. Whether you’re getting ready to walk barefoot on the sand in summer or sliding your feet into your cosiest boots in winter, it’s important to have a daily foot health routine. Find an easy solution with our Scholl product range to remove hard skin.
What causes hard skin?
Hard skin forms over a cracked area of the foot as a protective barrier against further injury. Wearing shoes without socks, or footwear that are overly tight or loose can cause hard skin. A lack of moisture and an improper walking motion can also be contributing factors.
Hard skin usually develops when thick skin on the soles of our feet quickly becomes dry, rough and brittle. An excess of new cells form in response to pressure and friction points and those areas rapidly become horny and dry with thickened dead skin and take on an unseemly yellowish colour.
As result, there can be some areas on the feet with rough, circular patches of skin, especially around the heel area or on the skin under the ball of the foot.
What are calluses?
Calluses are like the foot’s defence mechanism and are generally not harmful. However, calluses can lead to painful cracked skin, bacterial infections, and bleeding if left untreated or if feet are lacking regular care. Quite apart from being a painful nuisance, severe and untreated calluses are not a great look on exposed feet in summer. However, there’s you don’t need to suffer for long. A podiatrist can remove your callus in no time at all.

A good moisturising cream helps to prevent hard skin and keep feet hydrated, so they’re less likely to become cracked and damaged over time. Moisturised skin has more elasticity and is better able to accommodate the movements of the foot. To help keep your rough feet continuously smooth and improve your foot care, add Scholl’s daily moisturiser to your daily feet routine.
